After loss to Denver, did LeBron James play his last game with the Los Angeles Lakers? | Locked On Sports Today
The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated in five games by the Denver Nuggets, have we seen the last of LeBron James in the purple and gold?
The Los Angeles Lakers avoided a sweep at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, but were eliminated in Game 5 after yet another game winning shot from Jamal Murray. The loss ends a tumultuous season for the Lake Show, and now all eyes turn to superstar 39-year-old LeBron James, who could become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Locked On Lakers host Andy Kamenetzky spoke with Peter Bukowski of Locked On Sports Today about the likelihood of LA’s core group of James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves staying together for next season.
“I would be very surprised if LeBron ends up anywhere else,” Kamenetzky stated. “I think you’re going to see [the team’s core] next year.”

James did not offer much at the conclusion of the game, saying he hasn’t given much thought to his decision to either opt-in to the final year of his contract with the Lakers or choose free agency entering his age-40 season.
LeBron has previously indicated his desire to play on the same team as his son Bronny, who declared for the 2024 NBA draft. However, many believe he is best served returning to school to continue developing. LeBron has made it clear he is allowing his son to make his own decision, but no doubt the Bronny factor will play a role in where LeBron suits up in 2024-25.
The Lakers have disappointed in LeBron’s tenure with the club outside of an NBA title in the COVID bubble in 2020, but the league’s all-time leading scorer is still playing at an elite level and running it back with himself, Davis, Reaves, and other core pieces might be the best bet for this franchise.
It seems quite likely if they do run it back, it will happen with a different coach on the sideline after a poor performance from Darvin Ham this past year.
