Trey Matthews

Locked On Devils host William “Trey” Matthews, III, was born July 8th, 1999 in Providence, RI and was raised in Detroit, Michigan but currently reside in Philadelphia, PA. He’s hosted Locked On Devils for the Locked On Podcast Network since July 2020. He got his start in the sports media world in October 2019 when he worked for his school’s television station. He is one of the few full-time African-American hockey play-by-play announcers in the entire country. His mentor is Everett Fitzhugh (Seattle Kraken Play-by-play announcer). He’s been featured in USA Today, USCHO, Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, and NHL.com.

He became the 2nd African-American to announce a Canadian Hockey League game in its nearly 50-year-long history. when the Erie Otters played the Mississauga Steelheads in January 2023 and has been a credentialed Devils personnel since last winter. Trey has been writing for the Devils FanSided Pucks and Pitchforks since October 2021. He graduated from Adrian College in 2022 with a degree in Communication Arts and Science and is attending Arizona State University and trying to obtain his Master’s in Sports Journalism.
