Who were the winners and losers from day one of the NBA draft combine? | Locked On NBA Big Board
Which NBA draft prospects boosted their stock during shooting and athletic testing at the NBA draft combine?
The first day of the 2024 NBA draft combine saw over 75 prospects participate in various shooting and athletic testing drills under the watchful eye of scouts and analysts.
Locked On NBA Big Board hosts Richard Stayman and Leif Thulin were among those in attendance, and they broke down which players boosted and lowered their NBA draft stock during the festivities on the latest episode of the podcast.
When asked which player was the biggest winner from day one, Thulin emphatically endorsed Baylor big man Yves Missi.
“Not only did he look like the athlete we hoped he would, there was skill on display and he shot great,” Thulin said. “He was swishing threes, his midrange looked good, he jumped out of the gym and he also ran like a gazelle…I think he’s put himself pretty squarely in the conversation to be a lottery pick.”

Missi was not the only big man to impress, with UCLA’s Adem Bona and Purdue’s Zach Edey standing out for their testing results as well. However, it was a big man projected at the very top of the draft, Alex Sarr, who was the first disappointment for Stayman and Thulin.
“He’s assumed to be the No. 1 pick, and he probably still will be, but athletically he didn’t look the part to me,” Thulin continued. “He’s billed to be this defensive ace…if that’s my guy at No. 1 his main calling card is his defensive fluidity, I think you have to be a more explosive athlete to have that label.”
The NBA draft combine runs through Sunday, May 19, giving prospects many more days to rise or lower their stock ahead of the draft. The Locked On NBA Big Board hosts will have plenty more analysis on the draft hopefuls at the combine throughout the next six weeks until draft day on June 26.
