Atlanta Hawks earn No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA draft lottery
The Atlanta Hawks won the NBA draft lottery for the first time in franchise history, despite just three percent odds.
For the first time since 1975, the Atlanta Hawks will have the No. 1 selection in the NBA draft after winning the lottery on Sunday. Atlanta had just 3% odds of winning the pick after posting a 36-46 record in 2023-24.
Locked On Hawks host Brad Rowland hopped on an emergency episode to discuss Atlanta’s luck in finally landing the top pick, but in a draft class that does not have a consensus top prospect.
“There is not a consensus, overwhelmingly awesome prospect in this draft,” Rowland said. “There’s no Wemby, no Zion, none of those guys exist in this class.”

Atlanta has a big offseason ahead, needing to decide if they want to continue with the backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray or perhaps make a trade. The No. 1 pick gives them an easier path to a full rebuild, and trading Young for a package of draft picks could be even more appealing now.
A team like the San Antonio Spurs, who desperately need a point guard to pair with Victor Wembanyama, could line up as a trade partner as they have two picks in the lottery at No. 4 and No. 8.
Below is a look at the entire NBA draft lottery with six weeks until the draft begins on June 26:
- Atlanta Hawks
- Washington Wizards
- Houston Rockets
- San Antonio Spurs
- Detroit Pistons
- Charlotte Hornets
- Portland Trail Blazers
- San Antonio Spurs
- Memphis Grizzlies
- Utah Jazz
- Chicago Bulls
